Google's smart router, the OnHub, is getting its first update Over The Air and owners of the device can expect a number of significant improvements.
According to Tech Times, the Google OnHub sparked a lot of interest from the general public, arriving as a new-generation WiFi and internet router with a design that is something to be proud of. Despite it's hefty $200 price tag, a lot of Google users opted for the one of a kind internet connection router.
As recently reported by Android Police, the update can be installed automatically only requiring a reboot once the device determines a low activiy period. This update is a disclaimer from Google OnHub's launch site, that the device doesn't require a reboot at all. However, the smart reboot is still a very nice feature to have as owners of handsets and desktops will know is common to usual software updates.
9to5 Google further notes that the changes prioritize better performance and network management. The updates include:
- Improved client device naming
- Antenna optimizations
- Expanded use of 5GHz channels
- Improved port forwarding performance
- General stability improvements
The software version is being named 7390.62.2, up from 7077.122.2, and is coming out in stages to OnHub owners.
The OnHub sports a wide variety of features that make the user experience as something simple and hassle free. The feature includes an external device design that looks sleek enough to display on a coffee table, smart antennas that determine optimal and focused connectivity for each device, and hand gestures that signal which devices should get priority connection.
The TP Link OnHub made its debut three months ago, and it's only been about two weeks since the ASUS version broke cover. OnHub owners will be happy to know that updates will be something they will see more in the future, to help make the OnHub experience unlike any other usual router experience.
