Samsung Gear VR Now Available for Pre-order at $99

Starting last November 11, the Samsung Gear VR is now available for pre-order. The price tag for the head-mounted virtual reality device is $99 and will start shipping out on November 20.

The Samsung Gear VR was developed in conjunction with Facebook-owned Oculus VR and supersedes the Innovator model editions released last December 2014, says IBN Live. The headset is now available for pre-order in Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, and samsung.com.

According to the official site of Oculus, the new Gear VR is approximately 19% lighter than the previous Innovator edition, and ergonomics and touchpads have been redesigned for better and more favourable experience and navigation. The device is also compatible with Samsung phones, including Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, S6, and S6 edge.

With the launch of the Gear VR comes the release of dozens of games and thousands of immersive videos and films.

It is also important to know for virtual reality enthusiasts, that the Samsung Gear VR is strictly Samsung only, meaning the VR headset is only compatible with devices created by Samsung, adds Popular Science.

Gear VR users will also have access to Oculus Social, which is a social networking feature that allows users to hang out with friends in social friends. The process starts with choosing an avatar and finding your friends. Oculus Social allows users to experience videos together.

For the video experience, Partnerships with Lionsgate, 20th Century Fox, Twitch and Vimeo bring films from the companies. Game titles being mentioned with the first release include Gunjack" from CCP (sci-fi MMO "Eve: Online") and "Land's End" from Ustwo Games (mobile hit "Monument Valley").

For those who want to get the VR headset from a physical store, users can wait until November 27 to see the Samsung Gear VR in Best Buy's store locations and T-Mobile stores, which will also be offering the VR set online.
