Samsung has a knack of introducing some unconventional devices, such as smartphones with projectors, tablets that can make calls and even smartphones with a stylus. The South Korean company has taken the quirkiness up a notch by releasing a huge tablet.
The Samsung Galaxy View is a tablet that is larger than most laptop screens. Its measure is a massive 18.4 inches and has a 1080p display. The Galaxy View was introduced last November 6 and is now coming to US markets, says Tech Times.
The never-seen-before tablet comes with a Samsung Exynos 7580, eight A53 cores clocked at 1.6GHz, 2GB of RAM, a 32GB of internal storage, a microSD slot that caters up to 128GB of additional storage and a 5700mAh battery pack. Launching out of the box, the tablet is run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
According to The Verge, Samsung doesn't actually want users to view the Samsung Galaxy View tablet as a tablet. Although, its functions are tablet-like in feature, the device could very well much be a portable television set that users can carry from room to room.
With all those specs laid aside, the View is nothing close to portable. It weighs approximately 5 pounds and is difficult to fit into any casing or packaging.
The pricing is at $599, which many experts have deemed to be a tad bit too high for users to commit to. And that is only for the WiFi model, Slash Gear further explains. There is a model with 4G LTE support, though there is no news to when or if that model will be coming to the US.
Those who would like to purchase the tablet/portable tv will have an option to go for a 2-year or 3-year accident protection plan that are priced at $66.63 and $99.99 respectively. Spills, cracks and drops are covered by the warranties.
