A "Gamergate" movie adaptation will be on its way to production. Reports say the studio already has a prospect as to the casting process. Although there are still scarce details, the new project has gone controversial.

The Entertainment Weekly confirmed that the "Gamergate" movie will be under the Pascal Pictures. Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum will be adapting the book written by Zoe Quinn based on the Depression Quest game into a script. Additionally, Simon and Schuster's Touchstone imprint will publish the book on September.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, bidding was made for the legal franchise of Quinn's "Crash Override: How to Save the Internet from Itself." As the previous report claims the rights to the Pascal Pictures, Amy Pascal who manages the studio won the bid. Hence, she will finance and produce the "Gamergate" movie.

Additionally, a report from the Empire reveals that Scarlett Johansson is interested for the lead role. But the studio has not release a statement about this yet. Furthermore, the site has quoted a statement from Quinn explaining things about "gaming and the internet message boards."

The game developer reiterated her observations in regards with the people attached with the internet world nowadays which somehow does not recognize the results and effects to their lives.

"Most gamers give zero fucks about this," Quinn said. "Like the rest of us, they're just here to play games. But a vocal minority are clinging onto the exclusionary identity 'hardcore gamer,' muttering 'f*ckin casuals' under their breath."

The "Gamergate" movie follows the book of the creator of an online game who became a victim of harassment and threats of violence after an ex-lover attacked her on a blog post. The conversation then became an extremely destructive sexism in the gaming world when Quinn fought back.

The film targets to deliver the message to the audiences about online ethics and games journalism. Sources say Pascal Pictures will be teaming up with Sony Studios for the distribution of the upcoming "Gamergate" movie.
