A few days ago, Mariah Carey was reported to be voicing Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming "The Lego Batman" movie. However, news are now circulating around the internet world that she will be playing another character.
According to the Deadline, the singer-actress is in negotiations as she will be lending her voice as the Commissioner Gordon in the spinoff film of Warner Bros' "The Lego Movie". While they are still in talks, further details about the new project are being kept concealed.
However, The Hollywood Reporter strongly stated that she will not be playing as Commissioner Gordon but instead she will be taking the role as the mayor of the Gotham city. After years of absence, she will be back even if it's a voice over role.
In another report on IGN, Borys Kit has confirmed the report from THR on Monday. Carey is bound to be the mayor of the crime riddled city. Again, the source clears the confusion emphasizing that the songwriter will not be Commissioner Gordon.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Ralph Fiennes will play as Alfred while Batgirl will be taken by Rosario Dawson. Michael Cera will also be joining the cast as Robin and Zach Galifianakis will be Joker. Furthermore, Will Arnett will be returning back as the Batman.
Additionally, Chris McKay, who supervised the Lego movie animation, is hired to helm "The Lego Batman" movie. Seth Grahame-Smith will be writing the script. Dan Lin and Roy Lee will be the producers alongside Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Originally, this will not be the first for Mariah Carey. She has been casted in "Precious" and in Lee Daniels' "The Butler" in 2013. With her casting "The Lego Batman" movie, some fans are excited for the upcoming project.
The studio and the actress have not given official statements about these reports. However, "The Lego Batman" movie is scheduled to be released on May 26, 2017.
