Microsoft Surface Book Review: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

By

The Microsoft Surface Book sold out at stores soon after the introduction of the latest flagship laptop, and all models are still currently out of stock at stores.

The launch of the Surface Book, which has been dubbed to be the closest competition to the Macbook Pro, follows the great success of the Surface Pro 4. According to Tech Times, the hybrid laptop - Surface Pro 4 - also received good reports from critics and users resulting in it selling out soon after it went on sale.

The top of the line model of the Surface Book packs 1 terrabyte of storage space and a powerful i7 processor, and sells for $3,199, which is a pretty steep price to pay for. However, it still remains to be the most in-demand model to date.

One of the more sleek features that users found intriguing is the dynamic fulcrum hinge, that perfectly distributes the weight of the screen, says Sydney Morning Herald. The Surface Book also comes with a pen for quick scribbles and intense graphics work. The Microsoft Hello is also one feature Insiders look forward to experiencing, though there are talks going around that Hello for Surface Book still has some issues with face recognition.

As promising as the Surface Book may seem, expert laptop technicians however advise users of the device not to repair the device on their own. Once opened, the Surface book presents a series of challenges to repairing it without professional insight given that the motherboard is upside down. Realty Today reports that the Surface laptop received a repairability score of 1 out of 10, the lowest possible score for repairability.

For those who are willing to sacrifice specs to get the Surface Book sooner can opt for the 512 GB i7 version which is slated for a December 4 shipping date. The 512 GB version is also $500 cheaper than the 1 TB version. The 128 GB and 256 GB i5 models will also be shipped out on the same date.
