The web-slinging superhero is set for his solo outing in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot and although plot details are currently under wraps, claims about potential villains have surfaced. Director John Watts also hinted about possible inspiration from the Ultimate Spider-Man series.

Spider-Man is set to debut in the MCU through Captain America: Civil War and is subsequently expected to star in his own solo film. While his role in the MCU is still unconfirmed, director John Watts revealed that he has been digging up on various comic book sources of the character, and particularly likes the Ultimate version of the superhero.

"Ultimate is great. I love Ultimate', he said. "We have the freedom to pull from anything, but I really like what Bendis did. A lot. That felt like... that was Peter Parker back in high school. And, spending as much time with his high school problems as it did with his superhero problems, which I think is really a lot of fun", he added.

According to Den of Geek, Watt's reference to the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book could indicate that the villains he will face could be characters close to him. In the series, Gwen Stacy and Eddie Brock who were close to Peter eventually became villains he had to fight against. Furthermore, his origin in the story was also connected to S.H.I.E.L.D could will help Marvel connect the upcoming Spider-Man solo film to other areas of MCU.

Marvel's president Kevin Feige also previously revealed that new villains are to be expected in the film, thus, scratching out other villains who had their share of screen time. As reported by Comic Book Resources, some possible candidates to go up against Peter could be Kraven the Hunter, Kingpin, and Mysterio who were also in the Ultimate series. Although for the contemporary version, Morlum and Chameleon are considered to also perfect matches.

Meanwhile, actor Rhys Ifan who played Lizard in the previous Amazing Spider-Man films recently shared his thoughts about the reboot. As reported by We Got This Covered, Ifan that Marvel should know which aspects of the project should be focused on. "I have absolutely no opinion on it. No opinion. I hope that when they reboot, there will be more emphasis on the 'boot' than the 're', because it needs a kick up the arse.", he said.

Andrew Garfield who previous played the titular character in Amazing Spider-Man also previously expressed his support in the project with Tom Holland set to portray a much younger version of the character. Aside from Holland, Marisa Tomei is also on board the upcoming Spider-Man Reboot as Aunt May. The project is currently slated to hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
