Katniss and her allies are set to take down President Snow in the hugely anticipated The Hunger Games: Mockingkay Part 2. The film is expected to be a box office hit during its opening this weekend, while the cast paid tribute to Paris during their Los Angeles premiere.
More action is expected in The Girl on Fire's last big screen outing, and as reported by Movieweb, it is expected to perform well in their opening weekend. It is currently projected to reach $123 million, which comparable to Sony's Spectre's $128.9 million earnings in two weeks it has been out in cinemas. As of writing, the film is also listed with 79% fresh in Rotten Tomatoes.
Moreover, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, the film's cast showed their sympathy and respect for Paris during the Los Angeles premiere. During the red carpet event, the stars wore mockingjay pins with ribbons of the Frech flag as a tribute to the victims of the infamous Paris terrorist attack.
Elizabeth Banks, who plays as Effie Trinket in the franchise also shared a photo of the pin in her Twitter account. "Our hearts are with you France where we have so many amazing fans. #MockingjayPart2 @TheHungerGames", Banks captioned.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 will not only be the last instalment in the franchise, but it also serves as the last project of the Academy Award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman who died during the production period of the project.
Although he was able to finish most of his scenes, The Guardian reported that he was not able to film a key emotional scene. With his demise, the sequence was eventually tweaked, which is now presented in the film as a letter read by Woody Harrelson's Haymitch Abernathy. Seymour Hoffman's death caused changes in shooting schedule with working days cut shorter to give chance for the cast and crew to mourn.
Possible spin-off rumors are revolving around the project, however no official announcements have been released thus far. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 is directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claflin, Willow Shields, and Julianne Moore among many others. It is set to hit theaters on November 20.
