Despite its delays, Channing Tatum's Gambit getting back on track with Mena's Doug Liman in final negotiations to direct. Producer Simon Kinberg also revealed that the film will be a heist movie, and sexy thriller.
Although the film lost a significant member upon director Ruper Wyatt's departure from the project, it now seems to be shaping up into one with good foundation with director Doug Liman in final talks. As reported by AV Club, Liman was courted by Tatum when Wyatt bowed out and has since went to have talks with 20th Century Fox.
Gambit is currently slated to hit theaters in 2016, although, as reported by Den of Geek, the film's release date is highly speculated to be moved to 2017. The reschedule of release date, however, could be a good sign for the project as it could give its creative team can have more time to develop and polish the film.
Plot details for the film are currently under wraps, although producer Simon Kinberg hinted that it will stay true to the character and will be more of a heist movie and a sexy thriller. "I mean Deadpool obviously has a very different, almost antithetical tone to the mainline X-Men movies.", Kinberg said as reported by /Film.
" The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way", he added.
Channing Tatum is still on board as Remy LeBeau or Gambit, with Lea Seydoux heavily rumored to play as Bella Donna Bourdeaux. It is set to be produced by Kinberg, Tatum, Reid Carolin, and Lauren Shuler Donner. It is currently slated to hit theaters on October 07, 2016. More details about the project are expected to be revealed when production progress.
