'Transformers 5' is happening and lead writer Akiva Goldsman talks about an expanded universe that will include standalones, sequels and prequels. There are two possible storylines for the upcoming movie and recently reintroduced Micronauts might join the sequel.
Just like Disney and Universal, Paramount Pictures has created a brain trust of writers to come up with the story arc for the Transformers movie franchise. According to a report by Movie Pilot, award winning writer Akiva Goldsman leads the pool of writers and Michael Bay has apparently been invited to give his insights. The brain trust will supposedly be responsible for the future of the franchise as Paramount is looking into a 10-year long project. This means Transformers is joining the bandwagon of expanded universes.
Goldsman said in an interview that the plot of the new movies will act as standalones that will still contribute to an overall story arc much like how Marvel did it with the Avengers and what DC is attempting right now with Justice League. The lead writer though did not give any hints about what the plot will revolve around.
Talking about the plot, Mark Ryan, the voice actor for Jetfire and Lockdown gave fans an update during a convention in the U.K. according to a report by Christian Today.
Ryan said in the convention that the writers are working on two possible storylines. The first one is Mark Wahlberg's character Cade Yeager working with the Dinobots to once again fight a global threat. The other plot according to the actor features Optimus Prime journeying into outer space to meet the creators of their race which will lead to him crossing paths with the giant transformer Unicron. The actor did not confirm which of the two plots will be chosen for the 5th installment.
