Rumors on the 2016 iPhone 7 suggest that Apple's next iPhone will have more RAM, waterproof capability, and a new design without the home button. There could also be a smaller and cheaper iPhone 7 in the making.
The 2016 iPhone 7 could sport a waterproof build, said news site Investor Place in a report. It seems that Apple's previous patents for technology to keep electric components from being exposed to moisture will be relevant to the next iPhone. If the rumor will be true, the waterproof build of the iPhone 7 could become its most important selling feature.
Apple will not be the first manufacturer to use waterproof support on their phones. Samsung and Sony have already created their own line of waterproof devices such as the Xperia ZR phone which can be submerged in water.
Additionally, tech site iFixit performed a teardown of the latest iPhone 6s. It was revealed that Apple used a "mystery adhesive" that prevents liquid from coming through in the iPhone 6s' case. Tests done on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s have further shown that the devices were more water-resistant compared to their predecessors.
Aside from adding waterproof ability, Apple might be planning to add more RAM to the iPhone 7. Data site TrendForce speculates that the 2016 iPhone 7 could boast 3GB of RAM instead of 2GB only.
Know Your Mobile added that the iPhone 7 could rock a new design that does away with Apple's trademark home button. This could be made possible with fingerprint-sensitive chips which will convert the device's whole front panel to be the actual screen. Given that the iPhone 7 might be geared with a wider and larger screen, it is possible that the device could support the Apple Pencil stylus.
Apple could follow up the iPhone 7 with a smaller and cheaper version of the device. iDigitalTimes reported that the smaller iPhone 7 would be an entry-level model.
Other features that customers would like to see in the next iPhone 7 are more color choices and better battery according to rumors. However, it was reported that Apple might use the same battery as the iPhone 6s on the iPhone 7 in 2016.
