'Gambit' is revealed by producer Simon Kinberg as a "sexy thriller" and a "heist movie" and will be different from other films in the X-Men franchise. The film will begin shooting by Spring.
According to /Film, the upcoming standalone film in the X-Men franchise will be different in tone than all the other previous films. Producer Simon Kinberg revealed, "I mean Deadpool obviously has a very different, almost antithetical tone to the mainline X-Men movies. The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way."
The English-born producer and screenwriter is best known for his work on the popular X-Men franchise. He co-wrote 'X-Men: The Last Stand' with Zak Penn back in 2006, produced 'X-Men: First Class' in 2011, wrote and produced for 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' in 2014. He is also involved in the upcoming films 'Deadpool', 'X-Men: Apocalypse' and 'Gambit'.
No other details have been confirmed for the upcoming standalone film except that Channing Tatum is all set to play the titular character. According to Comic Vine, Kinberg admitted that it would be a challenge to make the scheduled October 7, 2016 release. He said that despite the backlogs, he had been putting together a script together with Tatum, producer Reid Carolin, screenwriter Joshua Zetumer, and the director himself.
Although Kinberg didn't make any official announcement on who will be helming the upcoming film, it was previously reported that Doug Liman had signed on as replacement for Rupert Wyatt. Wyatt exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. According to Collider, Kinberg added that they hoped to begin shooting the film by Spring season.
Liman is best known for his work on various action-thrillers including 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith', 'Jumper', 'Ender's Game', 'Edge of Tomorrow' and 'The Bourne Identity'. It would be interesting to watch how he would transform Marvel's comic book mutant for the big-screen.
'Gambit' is a planned spin-off film focusing on the Marvel comic book character of the same name. Channing Tatum will be taking on the lead role of Remy LeBeau a.k.a. Gambit with Lea Seydoux as Bella Donna Bordeaux. It is scheduled to be released on October 7, 2016.
