‘Homefront: The Revolution’ Isn’t ‘Homefront 2,’ Everything Is New in the Game

In a recent interview with Homefront: The Revolution's Senior Narrative Designer, CJ Kershner, stated that the sequel wouldn't be continuing the story set in the first game. Even though it is a sequel, it will be a brand new game in terms of everything.

"Everything is new for Homefront: The Revolution. It's a new team, new publisher, new style of gameplay, new backstory," Kershner tells MCV. He added, "Dambuster is making its own unique mark on the name of Homefront, so anything that you remember or know about the first game: forget it now. It's not a continuation of that story or that style of gameplay. There's a reason we don't call it Homefront 2."

It can be remembered that the original Homefront was published by THQ in 2011. However, it went bankrupt and Crytek bought the franchise for $544,000. Crytek later on sold it to Deep Silver who assigned Dambuster Studios with the making of Homefront: The Revolution, reported Lazy Gamer.

Kershner, who also worked on the first game, noted that he wants this follow-up to stand distinctly on its own. When asked why they still kept the Homefront title, Gamespot quoted Kershner saying, "There's power in that core premise of being a guerilla fighter and fighting in your own neighborhoods against a technologically and numerically superior military force. The premise is strong and the execution on the first game leveraged the story and the idea, but not the actual mechanics of what that would involve."

Fans can expect unscripted gun battles in the streets, a lot of chaos, and a strong story where people are encouraged to fight against occupation, in Homefront: The Revolution. While there are many things that have changed about the new Homefront, its ambition appears to remain solid. It will be difficult to distance it from its rocky past, but Kershner is confident that the Dambuster team can pull it off and make it stand firmly on its own.

Homefront: The Revolution will be released in Spring 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
