'The X-Files' Revival Updates: New Key Art & Promo Released; Mini Series to Give Scully A New Love Interest

By

FOX has released a new poster and promotional video for the six-episode revival of The X-Files. In other developments, fans of the sci-fi drama will meet a new love interest for Scully when the show debuts next month.

As previewed by Zap2it, the latest promo of The X-Files used actual footage of mysterious lights taken by people from Los Angeles, California. Taken during the night of Nov. 7th, spectators can be heard asking: “What is this? Is it coming towards us?”

According to the publication, a missile test conducted by the military was the “official” explanation for the said mysterious light. However, Mulder sets his thinking on a different path.

“We must ask ourselves, are we truly alone? Or are we being lied to?” Mulder forewarned.

Aside from the dark teaser, the network also released a new key art featuring agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). The poster also signals a strong connection with the promotional video, as the striking light and smoke effect behind Mulder and Scully are emphasized. Entertainment Weekly shared the news.

In other news, TV Guide reported that Scully will get a new love interest in the form of Joel McHale’s Tad O’Malley.

Viewers will find McHale’s conspiracy theorist developing a crush on Scully after enlisting her and Mulder’s help on a new case.

Aside from McHale, new faces will also board Fox’s revival of The X-Files including: Robbie Amell, Lauren Ambrose, Annet Mahendru and Rhys Darby among others. Annabeth Gish, William B. Davis and Mitch Plieggi will join Duchovny and Anderson as returning cast members.

As previously reported, Chris Carter, who created the original The X-Files series that aired for nine seasons starting 1993, will also come back to pen, produce, and direct the upcoming revival.

"The X-Files" revival premieres Sunday, Jan. 24 on FOX.
