'You’re The Worst' Renewed for Season 3 By FXX; New Season To Premiere Next Summer

Gretchen and Jimmy are sticking around to tell more of their wild yet one-of-a-kind story. Critically acclaimed comedy, You’re The Worst, has been officially renewed by FXX this week. The hit comedy stars Aya Cash, Chris Geere and Desmin Borges among others.

As first reported by Deadline, FXX has renewed You’re the Worst for a third season on Wednesday. It was announced during the day of the show’s season 2 penultimate episode. In addition, series creator and showrunner Stephen Falk has agreed to ink an overall deal to conceive and produce new projects for FX Networks and FX Productions.

Before renewing You’re the Worst, FX has recently cancelled fellow comedy, Married.

According to the publication, the renewal comes from the comedy’s stronger appeal to critics and viewers. 402,000 viewers tuned-in on its most recent episode and 334,000 among adults 18-49.

Meawhile, FX Networks and FX Productions original programming chief Nick Grad released a statement via TV Line following the announcement.

“Stephen is one of the best new talents in comedy — as funny, thoughtful and original as You’re the Worst, and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next,” he said.

Grad praised You’re the Worst for being “one of the most innovative” comedies in television this year, an edge that showrunner Stephen Falk and the cast members will be able to continue on its third run.

He further continued that Gretchen’s depression storyline in season 2 marked the show’s daring turn which to him was a “very courageous move”.

You’re the Worst season 2 ratings hit a snag when it moved from FX to FXX, TV By The Numbers reports. It currently averages a 0.3 in adults 18-49 in Live +3 – with the majority (80%) of its viewers falling under the 18-49 demographic.

To this end, fans who will be tuning-in for next Wednesday’s finale may now look forward for another exciting batch of episodes next summer.

Meanwhile, You’re the Worst season 2 finale is slated to air on Dec. 9th at 10:30PM on FXX.
