Typhoon Soulik destroys homes and industries in Taiwan, China

By

China was struck by Typhoon Soulik late last Friday, killing and displacing at least 200 people. The typhoon initially wreaked havoc in the island of Taiwan before entering China's Sichuan province. The provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian were also largely affected by the extreme torrential rains and floods that shut down schools, airlines, and offices in the region.

The typhoon killed one Taiwanese and injured many others. Electricity has been cut in the areas largely hit by the typhoon.

Moreover, the typhoon destroyed fishing vessels both in Taiwan and in the nearby Chinese provinces. No exact figures have been released regarding the effect of the typhoon on the Taiwanese fishin industry. The technology industry was also largely affected by Typhoon Soulik. Fujian houses several of China's tech free-port zones, while Taiwan is considered as one of Asia's technology and telecom hubs.

Flights were stopped due to the strong winds. The national market is at a full stop in Taiwan due to the immense destruction of the typhoon.
