Third Installment of Crackdown Will Feature Microsoft's Cloud Computing Platform for 20x More Computing Power than Xbox One

By

Microsoft marketing executive Yusuf Mehdi stated that 2016 will have the greatest games lineup in Xbox history. Gamespot reporter Eddie Makuch revealed that the Xbox One Crackdown will be one of the first games that will be released early next year. Crackdown will also be one of the very first games to use Microsoft's Cloudgine, a cloud computing platform that will be 20x more powerful than the Xbox One alone.

Cloudgine is a Microsoft technology that will enable the Xbox One, or any compatible system, to draw computing power from the cloud. Crackdown 3 multiplayer was said to have mostly destructible environment which will require more power than the Xbox One console is capable of.

According to Microsoft creative director Ken Lobb, the third installment of Crackdown will only be called "Crackdown" and not Crackdown 3. The possible reason is that the game is essentially an alternate timeline of Crackdown set in the future of the first game.

It is public knowledge that Microsoft has been strengthening their cloud computing platform Azure this past few years. However, not everyone believes that the cloud is the future. "I am not sure if cloud based processing is the future. After all, games should work forever and I am sure that in 10 years from the original launch most providers will have shut down their services – just look into the past – even very cheap services have been shut down already," said Reinhard Pollice of Nordic games as reported by Gaming Bolt.

Gaming Bolt speculates that Pollice was referring to the failed cloud computing platform OnLive that went out of business this year.

Crackdown is an Xbox One exclusive and is ready for pre-order right now. You can visit the Microsoft Store and plunk $59.99 for the game. If you pre-order now, you'll get a $10 Xbox gift card digital code within 10 days after the game's release.
