Christina Milian Opens Up About Being a Victim of Domestic Abuse

Most of the time, we tend to forget that celebrities are also human beings and that they also go through the same things we do. While they don't usually talk about these things in public, it does not mean they are not affected by these things. One example is singer Christina Milian, who recently shared her experience with domestic violence on her E! Reality series called "Christina Milian Turned Up."

On the latest episode of the series, the 34-year-old singer/actress shares that she was once part of an abusive relationship. Christina recalls her story of how her ex-boyfriend put a gun to her head when she was just 17 years old, as he played a dangerous game of Russian roulette on her. When she first started dating him, she thought he was 'super funny' even when he was being sarcastic. Over time, his abuse started to worsen subtly until it eventually took a dark turn.

Christina was sharing the story to her mom, Carmen, in reference to a new app called "Stop Attack." Stop Attack is an app that helps victims against domestic violence by sending out an alert to a five-person contact list. The app acts like a "virtual witness" to both physical or verbal assaults. It costs only $3.99/year.

As Christina shared her story, her mom could barely stop sobbing as she recounted instances when her daughter would cover up the bruises she had from the abuse. For the longest time, Christina stayed in that relationship since she feared for her family's safety if she would leave her (then) boyfriend. Even with the abuse, Christina kept choosing to go back to her ex. Because of this, her mom believes that her daughter's innocence is what was stolen from Christina the most.

To get out of the destructive relationship, Christina decided to change all of her contact information and move across the country. She might have cried the night she decided to leave him but it turned out to be the best she could do for herself.
