Passengers of the ill-fated Asiana Airlines, which crashed last July 6 in San Francisco, filed a petition for discovery in a Chicago court on Monday. Court records showed that the petition was against jet manufacturer Boeing Co.
According to Ribbeck Law Chartered, which represents the passengers, the petition seeks information on the design, manufacture and safety of the crashed Boeing 777 jet. The request also includes maintenance records and other relevant data that will help determine the liability of the manufacturer.
The National Transportation Safety Board has yet to release the results of its investigation on the crash that killed three people and injured 180 others.
Also on Monday, a Korean passenger filed a civil suit in a California federal court against Asiana Airlines, noting the negligence incompetence of its crew. The passenger is seeking US $5 million in compensation for "extreme bodily and mental injuries and economic damages."
Both Boeing and the South Korea-based Asiana Airlines have declined to comment on the two cases.
