Apple Inc was reported to be testing bigger screens for its smartphones and tablets. The company's move would be an attempt to resolve the growing concerns regarding its product lineup and rivalry with Samsung Electronics Co.
Apple's suppliers said that the company was designing a prototype that could lead to larger than today's 4-inch iPhone 5 and 9.7-inch iPad. The company was said to be considering a tablet that was around 13 inches long.
"Apple has been slow to react to consumer desire for larger smartphone screens, [and] entry level price points on new phones," Colin Gillis, BGC Financial's official, stated in an investor note. "Waiting and waiting, for the new products to launch, has become painful."
Apple's competitors like Huawei Technologies Co., Samsung and Sony Corp. already launched phones with displays that were bigger than 5 inches. They introduced the term phablet since the gadgets overlap in accordance to the size of a phone and a tablet. If Apple continued to make the device, it would finally fit into the extensive trend among mobile manufacturers.
