A Florida woman has been sentenced to one month in prison for stealing the diary of President Joe Biden's daughter Ashley Biden and later selling it to a conservative group.
Aimee Harris, 41, allegedly took the diary from the president's daughter's Delray Beach, Florida, residence in 2020 after she had left.
Aimee Harris Sentenced to Month Behind Prison After Stealing Ashley Biden's Diary
The diary, discovered by Harris beneath a mattress, contained candid revelations about Ashley Biden's personal relationships, battles with drugs, and financial situation.
According to Assistant US Attorney Robert Sobelman, Harris took various items including a diary, a digital storage card, books, clothing, and luggage. It seems that she was motivated by the desire to profit from these stolen items.
AP News reported that she later sought Robert Kurlander's help in selling the stolen material to make the private information public. According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), the pair later sold it to Project Veritas, a conservative news outlet, for $20,000 each.
An emotional Aimee Harris expressed remorse to the court, as a judge strongly condemned her actions as "despicable and very serious," lecturing her to surrender to prison authorities before July.
Harris anf Kurlander admitted to conspiring to transport stolen property across state lines in August 2022, a criminal offense that can result in a maximum prison sentence of five years.
In August 2022, Aimee Harris admitted to a conspiracy charge, acknowledging that she had received $20,000 out of the $40,000 paid by Project Veritas for personal items belonging to Ashley Biden.
Harris was sentenced by a federal judge on Tuesday to serve one month in prison followed by three months of home detention, during which she is required to surrender the $20,000 she obtained from selling the diary.
Harris Admits Aiming to Hurt Joe Biden
Judge Laura Taylor Swain of Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York strongly condemned Harris' conduct. During her court statement, Ashley Biden described the theft as a "heinous form of bullying."
According to US Attorney Robert Sobelman, Harris has consistently demonstrated a lack of regard for the law and the justice system. According to Harris, her main goal was to maximize her financial gain and negatively impact Joe Biden.
Defense attorney Anthony Cecutti argued against imposing a prison sentence for Harris. He highlighted her challenging life and her dedication to raising her children while overcoming abuse and violence.
According to him, the trial has served a fair punishment for Harris, who has struggled to find a permanent job.
"She bears the burden and social disapproval of her actions," he stated, according to Fox News.
