Casual Connect: Dan Morris of Facebook discusses mobile gaming

By

A Casual Connect conference will be held in San Francisco this week. Game developers will grace the event, with most of them responsible for Facebook's growth.

Mobile gaming will be discussed at the conference. Dan Morris, head of mobile games partnerships at Facebook, will be giving the talk Tuesday.

Here's more informaton on Morris' discussion as quoted by Inside Facebook, "One of the biggest problems for games on any platform is getting discovered by the right people. With unique reach across mobile and desktop and users who play a diversity of games, Facebook can help your mobile game find and engage its audience. In this session, you will learn how Facebook provides multiple paths to success for developers by connecting the game experience across platforms, bringing more valuable users to your game, and partnering with smaller game studios."

Gaming was a big factor in Facebook's growth. In the first quarter of 2013, total revenue was US$1.458 billion, of which gaming contributed. Game usage increased even though Zynga saw a significant drop in revenue. There were 665 million daily active users in March, which was a 26% increase from 2012. Monthly active users also increased 23% to 1.11 billion.

Currently, the gaming ecosystem in the social media site was undergoing rapid change. Zynga, although still a major player, was no longer leading. King took the lead in the app market. Meanwhile, other players included Kixeye, Wooga, and Pretty Simple, among others. All of these firms were playing to take a bigger piece of the pie.
