The design of a train station in the Chinese city of Nanjing has garnered significant attention from Chinese internet users, but unfortunately, not for the right reasons.

According to authorities, the design of the North Nanjing station draws inspiration from the beautiful plum blossoms that are famous in the city.

Chinese Netizens React to Proposed Train Station That Looks Like Sanitary Pad

However, some online users have been noting its striking resemblance to a different object - a sanitary pad. The topic has garnered a significant amount of attention on numerous Chinese social media platforms, according to BBC.

Weibo users expressed their thoughts on the blueprint of the train station through the social media platform. They presented an aerial view of the structure and commented that it resembled a sanitary pad, which contradicted the information reported in the papers.

China's Previous Architectural Designs

As per a report from Nanjing Daily, the government of Jiangsu province and China State Railway Group have given the green light to the preliminary design. Local media reports indicate that construction is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2024.

According to a report published in 2017 by the Nanjing Morning News, the train station is projected to have a price tag of around $2,763 million, covering an expansive area of 37.6 square kilometers (14 square miles).

This is just another architecture project in China that has garnered unexpected attention. According to Free Press Journal, China has allegedly faced criticism in the past for its architectural designs.

Previously, the CCTV Headquarters building in Beijing garnered significant attention due to unfavorable reactions, leading people to affectionately refer to it as the "big boxer shorts."
