HTC's first loss was a long time coming. Investors have been wary of the Taiwanese company's downward spiral. Its latest quarterly report continued the company's consecutive slump. HTC announced today that the company is expecting an operating loss in the third quarter, the first time in the firm's history since its initial public offering in 2002.
The company estimated that a loss of up to -8% will occur in the third quarter. Last quarter, HTC's profit report said that it barely made even at 1.5%. HTC's revenues were expected to fall between NT$50 billion and NT$60 billion, or US$1.67 billion - US$2 billion. Analysts predicted better figures.
However, despite terrible figures, the company remained positive with its latest product. The HTC One, earlier released in the United States, has been boosting the company image and has been acquiring generally favorable reviews.
The company is also optimistic in the last quarter, expecting notable improvements to take effect.
