In May, recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive an extra payment as part of the regular payout cycle for SSI beneficiaries, retired workers, survivors, and disabled individuals.
SSI payment recipients will receive an additional disbursement due to the timing of June's payment falling on a Saturday.
SSI Recipients May Receive Additional Money in May
According to AS.com, SSI beneficiaries typically get their monthly allotments on the first day of each month, excluding weekends and holidays.
Because June 1st falls on a Saturday this year, recipients will get two payments: the usual May SSI allocation on Wednesday, May 1st, and the June installment on Friday, May 31st.
The SSI program is designed to help working people who earn less than $1,971 per month, with exceptions for couples and parents seeking child support.
Applicants must meet income and resource requirements, with different limits depending on filing status. For example, individual and joint asset caps are $2,000 and $3,000, respectively, while parents filing for a child may see a rise to $2,000.
Furthermore, SSI applicants must meet severe medical standards matched with Social Security guidelines, which require serious physical or mental disabilities expected to last at least 12 months.
Proof by medical documentation is required, as is a proof of incapacity to acquire profitable employment in the larger market, regardless of local job availability.
The double SSI payout will follow the program's federal base rates: up to $943 for individuals and $1,415 for couples, with an additional $472 for those who qualify as essential persons (EPs).
Meanwhile, average monthly salaries differ by age, ranging from $814 for kids to $574 for elderly.
Recipients can use the SSI tool within their "my Social Security account" to determine eligibility and begin the application process, which normally takes less than ten minutes. Payments begin on the protective filing date once approved. Eligibility for SSI benefits varies year to year.
Looking ahead, two more double payments are scheduled for this year, in line with the monthly SSI schedule.
Below are the upcoming double payments expected for this year:

SSI Payment Eligibility
According to the Social Security Administration, to be eligible for Supplemental Security Income, you must be 65 or older, blind or disabled, and have limited income and resources.
Income can come from a variety of sources, including salaries, Social Security income, pensions, and unemployment benefits. Resources include cash, bank accounts, stocks, and real estate (except one's primary residence and some other assets).
To minimize delays or difficulty getting their payments, SSI beneficiaries must maintain track of their payment schedule and verify that their contact information with the Social Security Administration is up to date.
