Tesla has initiated legal proceedings against an Indian battery manufacturer for allegedly infringing on its trademark, according to Reuters. The legal battle awaits its next hearing scheduled for May 22.

The lawsuit was filed in New Delhi, India, where Tesla accused the Indian company of unlawfully using the "Tesla Power" brand to promote its products. Despite receiving a cease-and-desist notice in April 2022, the Indian firm Tesla Power India Pvt Ltd purportedly continued advertising under the contested name.

In response, Tesla seeks damages and a permanent injunction from the court

Should Tesla's claims get upheld by the court, the copycat company, Tesla Power India Pvt Ltd, could face several consequences. The court may issue a permanent injunction against the company, prohibiting it from using the "Tesla Power" brand name in any capacity.

Or Tesla may seek financial compensation for its trademark infringement, leading to the court ordering the Indian company to pay damages as restitution for the unauthorized use of the brand name.

However, the safest step for Tesla Power is to undergo a rebranding process, necessitating a change in its name and associated branding elements to avoid further infringement.
