Twitter founder Jack Dorsey has left the board of Bluesky, the decentralized social media platform he co-founded.
Jack Dorsey Departs Bluesky Board
On Saturday, an X user asked Jack Dorsey if he was still on the Bluesky board, and he replied, "No." The company later confirmed Dorsey's departure in a Bluesky post and thanked him for "his help funding and initiating the bluesky project."
"With Jack's departure, we are searching for a new board member for the Bluesky public benefit company who shares our commitment to building a social network that puts people in control of their experience. More to come!" the company added.
Both Dorsey and Bluesky did not reveal why he left the board. Dorsey deleted his own Bluesky account months eight months ago. According to The Verge, only two board members of Bluesky remain - CEO Jay Graeber and Jabber/XMPP inventor Jeremie Miller.
Jack Dorsey Unfollows Over 2,000 Accounts on X
Jack Dorsey initially supported Bluesky in 2019, intending to develop an open-source social media standard that could be adopted by Twitter, now known as X. Dorsey joined Bluesky's board of directors when the company formally separated from Twitter in 2022.
Dorsey was pretty active on X during the weekend. He dropped the corporate news, delved into the beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, unfollowed over 2,000 accounts on X, and referred to Elon Musk's social media platform as "freedom technology."
Dorsey now only follows the accounts of Musk, Edward Snowden, and Julian Assange's wife, Stella Assange, on X.
