$5 McDonald's Meal Could Arrive

NBC News reported that a new $5 McDonald's menu item could soon hit stores in the United States. People familiar with what's going on claimed that this cheap offering is aimed at helping customers, especially those with low incomes.

Right now, the prices of McDonald's items have drastically increased. For example, a side of hash browns already costs $6. Aside from this, the popular Bic Mac's price is now $18 per order, as The New York Post reported.

The news about the $5 McDonald's meal arrives as consumers struggle to navigate the increasingly challenging U.S. environment. Various reports have stated that low-income consumers are starting to reduce their spending, especially at fast-food brands.

$5 McDonald's Meal: What Is It?

Based on what the insiders shared, the new $5 McDonald's meal could include four items: a McDouble or McChicken, fries, chicken nuggets, and a drink.

During the recent earnings calls, McDonald's discussed the situation of low-income customers and how their decisions to lessen their spending drastically affect the fast-food chain industry.

"Consumers continue to be even more discriminating with every dollar that they spend as they faced elevated prices in their day-to-day spending, which is putting pressure on the [quick-service restaurant] industry," said McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski on Apr. 30.

The official said they now need to focus more on affordability to attract more diners. As of press time, McDonald's is still discussing additional details regarding the new cheap meal.
