According to authorities, there has been an alarming trend among underage tennagers who are using social media platforms like Telegram and TikTok to buy and possess knives.

These weapons are being used for various purposes, including acts of violence and intimidation, and have even been associated with the ongoing drug-related conflicts in Britain, according to The Guardian.

Young Teenagers Buy Knives Through Social Media

Stephen Clayman, the national lead for knife crime for the National Police Chiefs' Council, emphasized on Tuesday the need for stronger measures in response to a 7% increase in knife offenses compared to the previous year, along with a significant 20% rise in knife-point robberies.

According to Clayman, a commander in the Metropolitan police, there have been recent developments in the distribution of knives, causing both the government and police to work tirelessly to stay ahead.

However, it has been found that individuals involved in the illegal trade of knives are now utilizing popular social media platforms like Snapchat and TikTok to facilitate their sales.

This shift in strategy comes as law enforcement agencies intensify their efforts to crack down on the sale of knives in physical stores and online marketplaces.

Tightening Laws Against Knives, Weapon Possession

Independent reported that starting in September, new regulations will be implemented to strengthen laws regarding certain types of knives and weapons.

These changes will grant law enforcement increased authority to confiscate such items when discovered in private residences.

Possessing, selling, manufacturing, or transporting zombie-style knives and machetes will soon be illegal.

Additionally, the maximum penalty for possessing these and other banned weapons will be increased from six months to two years.
