Chrysler Mass Recall: Software Malfunction Affects Over 200K SUVs, Pickups
According to Click On Detroit's latest report, the software malfunction detected by Stellantis-owned Chrysler could put drivers in danger. The issue could disable vehicles' electronic control systems.
The affected SUV and pickup models include model year 2022 Dodge Durango, Ram 3500, and Ram 2500, as reported by ABC News. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the software flaw could affect the anti-lock braking control module.
Once this happens, the stability control on the mentioned cars could fail. NHTSA added that the safety feature of losing control could increase the risk of a car crash.
What Should Chrysler Owners Do?
Chrysler said that owners who have questions or concerns should contact their dealers. They can also coordinate with the automaker's recall assistance center.
Currently, Chrysler's dealers are ordered to update the affected models' anti-lock braking control module feature for free as a remedy. The NHTSA confirmed that notification letters to owners will be sent to their mails on July 26.
Chrysler estimates that 211,581 SUVs and pickup trucks are affected by the software malfunction. If you own one of the affected models, you have the power to take action. The best thing you can do is avoid driving your vehicle and wait for the car manufacturer to make further announcements, giving you control over your safety.
