Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, met with China Mobile Ltd. Chairman Xi Guohua in Beijing Tuesday. China Mobile Ltd. had the largest subscriber base among mobile carriers in the world. However, the carrier did not offer Apple's iPhones and iPads.
Thus, the meeting discussed how the two companies would be able to cooperate in future deals. Apart from that information, no other detail was provided by the Chinese firm through an emailed statement to Reuters. However, what's certain is that a deal between Apple and China Mobile would widen Apple's product distribution in the country as well as increase revenues for the two companies.
Apple's sales in Greater China in the second quarter dropped 43% from the first quarter of 2013. Greater China had a 13% share in Apple's quarterly sales, going down from 19% in the first quarter. Specifically, sales in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan went down by 14% or US$4.9 billion for the quarter. During the last 12 months since July 2013, Apple sales amounted to US$27 billion.
