Amazon revealed that it would partner with American hip-hop star Megan Pete, better known by her stage name "Megan Thee Stallion," to promote its 10th annual Prime Day event on July 16-17.
The Associated Press reported that the rapper premiered her original track called "It's Prime Day" to launch the hype for the event. It is understood that there was also an accompanying music video, which showed her purchasing several items from Amazon.
According to the company, Prime Day is open to Prime members who pay Amazon $14.99 per month or $139 per year for access to deals and other perks like free shipping.
Attracting Amazon Customers
Amazon did not disclose how much revenue it was pulling from such events, but it has been hosting more of such in recent years to attract customers who were dealing with economic downturns, such as rising credit costs and inflation.
The company has struggled recently to entice customers and compete against low-cost retailers like Shein and Temu. To address this, it is holding its first-ever spring sales event for all shoppers.
Meanwhile, Amazon said on its website that Pete's song promoting Prime Day would be available on her upcoming album, MEGAN, as an exclusive bonus track on Amazon Music.
