How Severe Is the Listeria Infection?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), listeria monocytogenes is a dangerous bacteria that may cause listeriosis, a severe illness.
Listeria affects over 1,600 individuals annually, with 260 losing their lives as a result. Those 65 and up and those with compromised immune systems are at a higher risk of contracting the infection. Among pregnant women, it has the potential to induce stillbirths and miscarriages.
High temperature, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, stomach discomfort, and diarrhea are only a few short-term symptoms that healthy persons may suffer. Depending on the condition, symptoms might appear anywhere from a few days to a few weeks later.
