The ShowPlace Icon Theater in Chicago closed at the end of its last day of business on Sunday (June 30).
On the condition of anonymity, two establishment employees told Block Club Chicago that the theater opened inside the Roosevelt Collection Shops in 2009 and was the last remaining movie theater in the city's South Loop after Cinema Chatham closed its doors in January.
One of the sources added that the theater's staff was informed of the theater's closure a week ago.
The confirmation was made after a Reddit post revealed the theater's closure. However, the website still showed movie screening times for the week beginning July 1, saying that "online tickets are not available."

Kerasotes's Dwindling Theater Business
ShowPlace Icon was the last of the four theater complexes owned by the 115-year-old Chicago-based company Kerasotes ShowPlace Theatres, which sold most of its theaters to AMC in 2010.
NJ.com reported earlier this month that a SnowPlace location in New Jersey was also sold to Regal Theaters.
ShowPlace staff in three other locations in Minnesota and California also confirmed that their workplaces shuttered Sunday.
The Associated Press reported in April during CinemaCon that theater owners have been facing losing competition from in-home streaming services.
Incidents Involving the Theater
Meanwhile, it is understood that the Icon Theater was the scene of a shooting in April last year, but no one was hurt in the incident.
A few months later, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that a security officer died after an altercation involving him and a teenager inside the theater.
