Samsung Electronics workers in South Korea will hold a strike from July 8 to 10, according to union officials. Reuters reported that this industrial action targets the nation's most valuable company.
Samsung Electronics Workers Plan For a Strike From July 8 to 10
Lee Hyun-kuk, vice president of the National Samsung Electronics Union, said Tuesday that the union was still determining the number of workers who will participate.
The upcoming strike aims to disrupt production, and the union may consider further action if its demands are not addressed. Lee communicated this intention during a live YouTube broadcast.
Union leader Son Woo-mok highlighted the importance of a more transparent system for bonuses and time off and called for Samsung to recognize the union as an equal partner.
Will the Strike Affect Chip Output?
However, analysts believe the strike is unlikely to significantly affect chip output since most production at the world's largest memory chipmaker is automated.
According to Kim Yang-Paeng, a senior researcher at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, the actual impact will depend on the number of chip plant operators who participate and the duration of their involvement.
