WASHINGTON - JANUARY 23: Delta Airlines pilot Steve Uvena wears a protest button on his uniform as he and other employees gather on Capitol Hill for a rally against the potential takeover of their company January 23, 2007 in Washington, D.C. Delta had over 100,000 people sign a petition opposing US Airways' takeover of the company.
Delta Air Lines will be changing its employee uniform policy in response to a social media backlash.

On Friday, July 12, VCPost reported that the airlines went under fire as photos of two flight attendants wearing Palestinian flag pins circulated online, with most describing the pins as "Hamas badges."

As a respond, AP News reported that Delta Airlines will now ban its staff from displaying pins representing any country or nationality other than the United States. This new directive is set to take effect starting next week, July 15.

Delta emphasized its commitment to diversity among its workforce and clientele, citing its brand mission to foster connectivity and deliver a premium travel experience.

The Atlanta-based airline stated that while they are proud of theird diverse employees and customers, their aim is to provide an inclusive environment that is safe, comfortable, and welcoming for everyone, reflecting their values of diversity and connectivity.

Why Wearing Palestinian Pin Received Backlash

Delta's decision is influenced by the heightened controversies related to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

In their defense, the airline is merely taking steps to prevent potential conflicts that could arise if employees wear symbols, like the Palestinian flag pins, that are seen as having strong political or divisive meanings.

Under the previous uniform policy, Delta employees enjoyed more flexibility in accessorizing their uniforms. Both flight attendants depicted in the controversial photos had adhered to Delta's former guidelines.
