Motion-based gaming console Nex Playground announced Monday (July 15) that the famous Halfbrick game Fruit Ninja is coming to the platform.

Halfbrick CEO Shainiel Deo told VentureBeat that the game could be played using only body motions as the Nex platform could detect it through a built-in wide-angle camera and multiple motion detecting sensors.

It is understood that the console would be sold for 10% off at $180 on Amazon Prime Day, and those purchasing it before July 17 would have Fruit Ninja installed for free.

Deo said that the Fruit Ninja version in the console would be limited to single player for the time being, but it remains to be seen whether a multiplayer version would be developed.

Fruit Ninja was created by Luke Muscat, who has since moved on from Halfbrick and, according to VG247, is currently developing a horror game called Feed the Deep.

Nex Playground's Expansion

Nex Playground was launched in December 2023 and has since grown to 25 games, ranging from arcade, sports, fitness, and education.

Nex president Tom Kang said that the full library of the current games it hosts could be unlocked with an all-access Play Pass subscription, which is sold separately.

He additionally noted that the console was perceived to be the next level of development for motion gaming after consoles like Nintendo Wii and Microsoft's Kinect console for the Xbox 360, with the new platform becoming a bestseller for both young and old players alike.

Nex Playground could accommodate up to four people playing together, and Kang said that the console could have the potential of "bringing families together in the living room" to play.

It is expected that sales of the console would skyrocket upon nearing the December holidays.
