Xiaomi Tech, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has already surpassed Apple's market share in China. Xiaomi launched its first smartphone in 2011.
Xiaomi was able to take 5% of the market share. It shipped 4.4 million units in the second quarter of 2013. During the same period, Apple took only 4.8% of the market share, shipping only 4.3 million iPhones. Xiaomi produced budget smartphones that offered the same features with its tech giant rivals. Its phones were worth half the price of Apple's iPhones and Samsung's Galaxy devices.
Samsung remained on top of China's smartphone market with 17.6% share. It sold 15.5 million units during the second quarter. Lenovo took the second place by shipping 10.8 million units. Yulong took the third place with 10.7 million devices sold. ZTE obtained the fourth place with 8.7% of the market share. Yulong was followed by Huawei with a market share of 8.6%. Xiaomi and Apple came in at the bottom of the list.
Around 88.1 million smartphones were sold all over China during the second quartile. The figure was 20% of the total global shipments.
