New Miley Single dominates iTunes

By

Miley Cyrus's new single "Wrecking Ball" blasted its way to the top spot of most downloaded singles in iTunes Saturday night. This must have inspired the teen pop star, before going on to perform in the recently concluded MTV Video Music Awards Sunday. Her explicit number with pop artist Robin Thicke drew criticism, especially in social media.

Based on aggregate data by Kworbz.net, "Wrecking ball" was top 1 on at least 6 countries, and number 2 in 7 countries, including the United States. Cyrus' album "Bangerz", to be released on October 8, is enjoying its spot in the top 10 in 32 countries. Her VMA-nominated single, "We Can't Stop" garnered more than 150 million views on VEVO.

On the other hand, iTunes have be lambasted as a bias medium in the digital downloads market. As pointed out in culture blog headlineplanet.com, iTunes has been known to serially delete popular songs from availability. Miley's music single reign was the demise of Katy Perry's "Roar", which happened to be knocked off of iTunes after being number one. iTunes have replaced the single with the album version for download. Cyrus was the richest teen in Hollywood in 2011 at USD120 million, and had earlier on made companies, including Walt Disney Co., rich with her then- USD1 billion franchise.
