A deal was recently signed by the Dunkin' Brands Group Inc to bring the iconic donut restaurants to London. This signifies a return of Dunkin' Donuts to the UK twenty years after it left.
This was confirmed through an interview by CEO Nigel Travis, who thinks 'doughnuts are much more traditionally British than people think.'
The company based out of Canton, MA had entered into franchise agreements with the Court Group and DDMG Ltd to build 50 Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in the Greater London area in the next five years. The initial focus would be in the North and East London.
According to CEO Travis, Dunkin' was 'very much a doughnut driven company' when it tried to run its business in 1990's in Britain. Now, the new Dunkin' Donuts provides a balance between baked items, drinks as well as sandwiches. There would be coffee, tea and espresso beverages as well as doughnuts amongst others. There will also be options for regional menu items to cater to local palates.
With the new Dunkin' Donuts sees competition coming from McDonald's and Starbucks and not Krispy Kreme in the UK.
