Intel Capital backs Recon Instruments

By

Vancouver, Canada-based Recon Instruments announced that it has received a significant investment from US venture capital company Intel Capital. No financial details were disclosed about the deal. However, Recon said it would be using the funds to develop its product as well as utilize it for its marketing and global sales efforts. Intel Capital would also aid Recon in terms of the expertise the company would provide in the manufacturing, technology and operations segments.

Recon is a manufacturer of Heads-up Displays (HUD) for sports and activity-specific environments. Recon Chief Executive Officer Dan Eisenhardt said they had led the HUD niche industry in the last five years. "Recon has shipped more than 50,000 Heads-up Displays worldwide, including a very successful campaign in Apple retail stores. Our products are engineered to deliver instant information, direct-to-eye and without distraction in the most demanding environments on Earth," he added.

Recon Instruments was established in 2008. It gathered USD 10 million in its Series A round in 2011 from Canada-based Vanedge Capital. Kopin Corp also participated in that round.
