UK-based gadget insurance firm Protect Your Bubble revealed that more than half of smartphone and tablet owners in Britain have attempted to fix their broken gadgets themselves. The survey of the gadget insurer further indicated that of the 53% of the respondents who attempted to repair their own gadget, 38% used strong adhesive to carry out the repairs while 30% used sticky tape. Other respondents used elastic bands, hair ties and chewing gum to do the job.
Forty-one percent of the respondents said the main reason why they attempted the repair job themselves is the high cost of having a professional do the job.
Protect Your Bubble is owned by Assurant Inc, a provider of specialty insurance products in the US and other parts of the world. For the second quarter of this year, Assurant reported a decrease in its net operating income to USD 120 million compared to USD 157.4 million. However, this was offset by the strong results posted by its property unit. In the second quarter of last year, Assurant Specialty Property also posted investment income of USD 19.3 million from its real estate venture partnerships.
