Microsoft answers rivals Siri and Google Now with Cortana

By

Microsoft answered rival Apple Inc's Siri with its upcoming update for Windows Phone 8.1. The update would include Cortana which works as a personal digital assistant. The new update from Microsoft would also compete with market rival Google Now, said a report from TheVerge.

According to sources who told TheVerge, Cortana would replace the search functionality of the built in search engine Bing. The feature available on Cortana would take a circle form icon although it was named after a Halo game series female character. Cortana's functions include animating when it is thinking or speaking. These features are no less than similar to that of Apple's Siri.

Services like Foursquare and Bing would back the data for Cortana. This would give it a similar contextual power to that of Google Now. Although Microsoft used the name Cortana for its testing stage, it is not yet with any finality if the moniker would be used in the software's final version.
