Lupita Nyong'o bags golden statuette for her performance in 12 Years a Slave

Last year, the world did not know anything about her, what she can do or where she’s from. This year, Lupita Nyong’o came out to be a stunning surprise to everybody after she portrayed the role of a suffering field working slave and her master’s object of sexual desire in the movie 12 Years a Slave. Critics had applauded Lupita’s performance which gave her numerous nominees and awards this awards season.

Among others, Nyong’o received her first Oscars golden statuette last Sunday at the 86th Academy Awards night beating Jennifer Lawrence for the Best Supporting Actress award. Apart from her great performance, Nyong’o delivered a moving acceptance speech after being declared the winner at the Oscars.

The Yale-trained Kenyan actress said her speech during the Oscars awards night, "It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else's, and so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey, for her guidance."
