Gravity dominates 86th Academy Awards, took home seven Oscars

Last Sunday, the 86th Academy Awards was held at Dolby Theater where great works of art were displayed in film. Among the numerous nominees, 12 Years a Slave won the best picture for the 2014 Academy Awards. Further, the movie took home three Oscars.

The award was dedicated by British director Steve McQueen to all people who had been are still continuing to experience slavery. In his acceptance speech he said, "I dedicate this award to all people who have endured slavery. And the 21 million people who still suffer slavery today. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you."

Meanwhile, Gravity dominated the Oscars and took home seven awards. The space thriller's director Alfonso Cuaron was awarded best director for the film. Gravity won best visual effects, cinematography and original score.

The Great Beauty, an Italian film centered on an aging writer who was in search of his life's meaning among the rich people in Rome, was awarded the best foreign language film.

The best actress was awarded to Cate Blanchett for her performance in Blue Jasmine while Dallas Buyers Club lead actor, Matthew McConaughey, took home the best actor award.
