The Commonwealth Games became a trending topic on social media site Twitter with hashtag #Glasgow. This was after the announcement that Hampden Park, the venue for Glasgow 2014, would be finally unveiled.

The ground at Hampden Park was raised by about two meters up on metal stilts bed. This was in order to accommodate players in the running track and athletics, reported BBC News. The new facilities would be toured by London 2012 gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill. Hill would be joined by Eilidh Child, a Scottish hurdler, said a BBC News report.

Hill and Child would tour Glasgow East End where the athletes’ village is located. The work to elevate the Hampden Park from a football ground to an athletics stadium following world class standards started three months ago. Diggers moved to Hampden during that time to start the work for the upcoming event.

According to Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg, the idea of the project was pioneering and innovative.

According to BBC Scotland correspondent Jane Lewis, the project took three months to transform the stadium at a cost of GBP14 million.
