Baron Capital acquires Manchester United shares

By

Baron Capital, an American investment company, has bought a quarter of all the shares in Manchester United. This was according to a report from SkySports that said Baron Capital acquired all available Manchester shares listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The investment firm now owns 24% of the club’s shares that were listed by the Glazer family in 2012. This represents a 2.5% of shares now owned by Baron Capital.

Analysts said that the acquisition of such shares reflected Baron Capital’s view of a good long-term investment in United. Analysts also said that it was a move Baron Capital saw to be more secured rather than bid for a controlling interest.

The Glazer family still owns 90% of the total shares in Manchester United. The family has only released a 10% share to the stock market. This make the Glazer’s to be in control of the vast majority of votes.
Despite the United’s struggles, the shares increase by Baron Capital returned a slow but rising increase on share price. The move to acquire more shares was also fuelled by a new Nike kit deal that was seen to be worth more than GBP100 million.
