On March 17, people all over Ireland celebrated the national holiday St. Patrick’s Day. As there are more Irish people in the USA, the festivity has been celebrated with more fervor, according to reports. St. Patrick’s Day had gone viral on Twitter.
The celebration shows the Irish tradition. It started after the Catholic priest, St. Patrick was said to have died in March 17 during the 4th century. The priest lived in England but was taken to Ireland when he was 14 as a slave. St. Patrick herded sheep for six years. After a decade that he was set free, the priest returned to Ireland and served as a missionary.
The first celebration of St. Patrick’s Day occurred in the US in 1737 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Cabbage and corned beef was the preferred menu of the celebration. Although the dish appears to be more American than Irish, these were popular among the Irish Americans in the 19th century as they were cheaper and easier to prepare.
