Vladmir Putin, Russian President, signs treaty with Crimea leaders

A treaty was signed by Russian President Vladmir Putin and Crimea leaders Tuesday for their annexation from Ukraine with 95% support from the people.

Putin addressed the decision in an announcement at Russia's parliament explaining the Crimea ties historical, cultural, spiritual, and religious ties to Russia. He paralleled the reunion of East and West Germany.

Putin shared that the Crimea is an "inseparable" part of Russia. He commented further to the Federal Assembly the referendum is "democratic and legal."

Putin's speech was met with a standing ovation by Russians and Crimea. While the United States and the European Union refused to recognize the referendum for Crimea to become part of Russia calling it illegitimate.

President Barack Obama condemned the outcome on Monday, while Vice President Joe Biden traveled to Poland to declare the firm stance against Russia.

Currently, sanctions are being prepared in Washington and Brussels against Russia
