Aroldis Chapman, Reds relief pitcher was struck in the face during a game against the Royals on Wednesday.
Chapman was hit by a line drive off the bat of Salvador Perez. A medical response team immediately rushed down the baseball field to assess the situation and give intervention. According to reports, the pitcher was not unconscious when he was brought out of the field.
Due to the incident, the game between Kansas City and Cincinnati were called off.
Chapman was reported to have stayed in the hospital for further observation. This was after reports that the pitcher incurred eye and nose fractures. Chapman’s father was also present during the game and was among those who rushed to help the pitcher. Many Royals and Reds players were shaken with the incident.
The Reds was expected to release more details regarding the medical condition of Chapman within the following days, reported The USA Today.
